Santa Claus · December 25
Canadians know the same Santa Claus as their American neighbours: Saint Nicholas by way of the Dutch Sinterklaas, with a sleigh, flying reindeer and a home at the North Pole. He is said to deliver presents in the night of Christmas Eve, and children find them in the morning. What Canada adds is the post. Canada Post answers children's letters to Santa, and the North Pole has its own postal code, H0H 0H0.
When presents are opened
In most Canadian households the presents are opened on the morning of Friday 25 December 2026, after Santa's night-time visit on Thursday 24 December. Santa is the same figure across the country, and the Christmas Eve delivery story is the standard one told to children.
Some family details vary, such as whether a gift or two is opened on the 24th.
Letters to Santa with Canada Post
The address is Santa Claus, North Pole, H0H 0H0, Canada. The postal code uses zeros, not the letter O. Letters sent within Canada need no stamp. Put a return address on the letter, because that is where the reply goes, and if there are several children in a house, Canada Post's advice is to send their letters together in one envelope.
Canada Post's English and French letter pages give Wednesday 9 December 2026 as the latest mailing date, as reported from the pages' text; the site blocks automated readers, so the date has not been confirmed on the page itself. Canada Post answers every letter in the language it was written in, English or French. In 2024 a postal strike led the corporation to drop its deadline altogether, so watch for service disruptions.
Boxing Day on a Saturday
Christmas Day is Friday 25 December and Boxing Day is Saturday 26 December 2026. Boxing Day is a statutory holiday in Ontario, and where a holiday falls on a day off, employees are generally entitled to the next working day, though you should confirm the rule for your province. Newfoundland and Labrador lists Monday 28 December as its Boxing Day holiday.
Boxing Day in Canada also means sales, often with early-morning doorbuster offers, and sales that run on through New Year's Eve as Boxing Week.

Works like the American market but through general marketplaces rather than Santa-only platforms: performers are listed city by city, offering home visits with photos and gift handover.
Strongly city-dependent. Edmonton starts at $200 flat, Toronto averages about $550, and one Ontario operator asks $299.99 an hour plus tax and travel.
No operator found names a lead time.
